How to Choose Black and Silver Curtains to Make Your House Special
Combination of black and silver colors may seem garish, but done the right way, it can be very attractive and tasteful. Black and silver curtains can take many form. They can be sheer or opaque. They can be bold or subtle in pattern. The background can be silver or it can be black. All those factors should be considered before you make the assumption that black and silver would not be a good combination for your curtains.
Black and silver curtains in sheer stripe could seem wispy and ethereal. These might be ideal for a bedroom located in the back of the house away from prying eyes. If you use sheers in a bedroom, make sure it doesn’t jeopardize your privacy. Stripes are often perfect additions in every room. A living room drape in a silk dupioni stripe could look very interesting, especially if the fabric is textured. A stripe that has a dull stripe (perhaps the silver should be dull) alternating with a shiny black stripe, it would capture the attention of the average onlooker who would be shocked by the contrast. It might also be done quite tastefully.
Another variation of black and silver curtains would be a solid black background with embroidered silver stars sprinkled throughout the yardage. If the stars are sparse and tiny, that might be too heavy a look for your windows. If the stars are larger and numerous it might be a better look because there would be less dark space. Rooms look larger when lighter colors are used and smaller when darker colors are used. If the foreground and background were switched, the black stars against a silver ground (a non-metallic silver) would be a nice look for a smaller room.
A great look for a modern room is a curtain that has opaque and sheer in horizontal panels on the length of a drape. Black and silver drapes with solid opaque silver panels alternating with sheer black panels could create a rather chic look similar to combination of black and white. Depending on your decor it could be shabby chic or very upscale. Horizontal panels are one way to alternate the opaque and sheer look, but it also works with vertical stripes both wide stripes and pinstripes. Curtains with black whether solid or sheer stripes mixed with silver stripes, again sheer or opaque could look very elegant and well done if hung in a dining room or other special space used for entertaining.
If you are very conservative, you might prefer to use a silver rope tie back over black curtains. This may be enough of the color combination for some. You could simply use silver hardware (rods and curtain holders) with black drapes), although, that’s not as effective as black and silver fabric made into curtains. The look can be very attractive when it’s done tastefully. The thing to keep in mind is the wide variety of weaves and patterns that are available. While you may be unable to imagine an attractive curtain panel in black and silver, they do exist. They’re far too many fabric manufacturers and designers to believe you cannot find black and silver curtains that you like.
